Good morning, Tiger fans. Another game day is upon us, a somewhat historic one this time, as the UCLA Bruins pay their first-ever visit to Tiger Stadium to take on the No. 16-ranked LSU Tigers. It's not a historiclally bad UCLA team, but it certainly isn't great. The Bruins eked out a 16-13 win at Hawaii then came home last week and got crushed in the Rose Bowl 42-13 by Indiana. The problem has been offense, or lack of it. UCLA has scored just one offensive touchdown in each game. Will the Bruins get healthy against LSU's defense? That remains to be seen once the game kicks off just after 2:30 p.m. (on ABC). But the Tigers' start to the season — a loss to UCLA's chief rival USC 27-20, a 44-21 win over Nicholls and a 36-33 comeback last week at South Carolina — means LSU can't afford to overlook anyone. Part of the focus on the Tigers will be on their offensive line and whether it can finally impose its will on an opponent in the run game. The focus of our pregame coverage is a touching feature by our Wilson Alexander on right tackle Emery Jones, who goes out every game trying to make his late father, Emery Jones Sr., proud. In my pregame column, I write that this game may come at a good time for the Tigers, who will try to build with wins in this one and next week against South Alabama toward a huge game Oct. 12 against Ole Miss in Tiger Stadium. In our other pregame coverage: Gabe Henderson takes a look at the week's top five college football gamesKoki Riley, our AP poll voter this season, is here with his SEC weekly rankingsIt's a big recruiting weekend for LSU gymnastics, which welcomes an Olympic gold medalist and three other top prospects to campusWilson, Reed, Koki and myself weigh in with our predictions on the LSU-UCLA game(Some newsletter writer who will remain nameless is 3-0 picking the over/under on the Tigers this season. Since I mentioned it, I'm sure that number is going opposite of what I predicted.) Thank you as ever for reading and subscribing. If you're going to the game, be sure to hydrate and lather up with sunscreen. It's going to be a hot one in Death Valley. That lame joke was for our visitors from California. You're welcome.
