The second episode of “Inside Television” features Jules Haimovitz, co-founder of Showtime (Premium Television) in 1977 as an alternative to Home Box Office (HBO). Jules takes us through the choice of the “Showtime” name, his initial plans to counter-program HBO, the development of “Broadway on Showtime” as a way to encourage new subscribers (along with the adult-oriented “After Hours”), and the way Showtime used HBO’s “first-mover” advantage to accelerate Showtime’s growth.
