Good morning, and welcome to the Saints Insider newsletter for Aug. 23. The New Orleans Saints were back in the comfort of their home facility — someone out there was comfortable in what felt like one billion percent humidity, right? — for Monday's practice, and quarterback Jameis Winston took another important step in his return to the field. For the first time since exiting the team's August 8 practice with a sprained right foot, Winston handled snaps in an 11-on-11 period. Sure, he was rusty, but the important thing was that he was out there. That is definitely good news. And, frankly, there's been a lot of good news to come out of this Saints camp. It wasn't that long ago that every member of the local press who reports on the Saints picked them to have a winning record this season. But there is at least some things that are concerning our esteemed columnist, Jeff Duncan. Five of them, to be precise. A few other things to note. - Of course Blake Gillikin received a quote-unquote random drug test.
- Michael Thomas is out again with a hamstring injury.
- The Saints waived three players Sunday, and must make at least two more moves by today's deadline.
That's all we've got for now, but we'll have plenty more coming your way as the team prepares for its third and final preseason game this Friday against the Chargers. Thanks as always for your support. Cheers, Luke Johnson |
