Welcome to 2020
Welcome to the January edition of the City of Cockburn's Champion Clubs newsletter. For those new to your respective club volunteer roles I am the City's Club Development Officer. I'll be your first port of call for items such as grants and funding, governance enquiries, workshops and other club support requests as needed. If your club is planning any events or running any programs, give me call as there may be ways in which the City of Cockburn can assist, whether through funding or other resources. To help spread the message about the City's sporting programs and assistance avenues we recommend as many of your committee members subscribe to this newsletter as possible. I look forward to working with you all throughout 2020 .

Sport and recreation clubs are important to local communities and can be the best place to encourage positive contact and cooperation between people from a range of different backgrounds and abilities. There is great potential for sporting clubs and community groups to expand their memberships and reduce social isolation, by encouraging people of diverse backgrounds, abilities and age to join and participate. Some clubs may feel that developing new networks, programs and procedures may be too difficult, too expensive or too time consuming for already over-stretched volunteers/staff. The skills you would use to include people from Aboriginal, CaLD or with disability backgrounds are no different from the program planning you would do for other people. An inclusive club adapts to the needs of all individuals.
Applications are now open for the St John WA Heart Grant.
The St John WA Heart Grant is an initiative offering over 1,000 defibrillators to be located for public community use, for just $249! Normally retailing in excess of $2,000, the package includes the defibrillator unit, a lock box and necessary first aid training. You must be a not-for-profit WA sporting or community group that is an incorporated associated or that has a similar accountability structure defined by the WA Department of Commerce.
