| rantnrave:// Regarding the US election, there are few words, few consolations, and few rational explanations, especially for an industry as roundly supportive of HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON as fashion. The blow to luxury markets was immediate, and people are just beginning to unravel what further negative implications there might be for the fashion industry... In NEW YORK CITY, there were few warnings about what transpired. Nothing is certain. There was a profound sense of loss and outright horror in people’s reactions on Nov. 9. But not a sense of defeat. Several themes have emerged. Wanting to unite. Looking to the future. Disbelief in the present. Someone on TWITTER wrote that it’s time to get punk. WWD has a roundup of reactions from individuals in fashion and retail. Here are some reactions from several young men ages 16–22 from VERY GOOD LIGHT. Let the youth of this country carry us forward… Hillary wore a deeply symbolic color while delivering the message that we must continue to fight for what we know is right. The fight against fast fashion is important. Over a thousand garment workers died in 2013 alone so that we can have $30 Vetements-copied jeans and cheap copies of Cushnie et Ochs' dresses (in the case of the latter, the real garments are the product of a Parsons-educated design duo and they are made in NYC, in safe work spaces, of the finest materials.) | |
