rantnrave:// To say that FOX NEWS has been a successful investment is an understatement. It set out to appeal to what was once thought of as an underrepresented conservative audience and view on television. RUPERT MURDOCH entrusted ROGER AILES to make it happen. By almost all accounts he was brilliant. A man with a clear vision. To me, that vision and obvious drive have played the leading role in destroying the sane, political dialogue in AMERICA. A place where entertainment, lies, half-truths, news, and often mean and divisive commentary mixed into a stew that has poisoned the cable and online news landscape. The target audience idea was right. The execution was ruthless. One that has spawned even meaner and crazier news brands that pervert the truth and create alternative "facts" appealing to sinister narratives. I want to learn more about conservative views. I have to. I need voices I can trust. I know many disagree with me. I know that to some I'm a liberal media elite douchebag. OK. They think CNN is the ALIEN monster. OK. And HILLARY and OBAMA are the antichrists. OK. But I've never been a fan of "what about them" arguments. And today, we're not talking about them. Harassment scandals, defections, and firings at the network. Clearly, it's in transition. But is it too late? Can a serious, trustworthy conservative news channel be a business? Many complain about social media newsfeeds and the dark paths engagement tactics can lead us down. Not good for us or society. Why was Ailes' Fox News any different? When I see these nutters and their venomous, non-news commentary I wonder if they believe it. Or does the rage and anger they incite do so well in the ratings that they lost the narrative and it's about the ratings, fame, and money. Their drugs. Is it too late for Fox News to play a constructive role? And even at its worst, it is now the middle of the road compared INFOWARS or BREITBART. Where will it stand in the future? These are serious times. And we need good and fair journalism. Or do we need to turn to advertisers to save us by applying pressure? Ailes was a superhero to some and an archvillain to others. He relished the villain role. He kept score that way. He was the only division head I never met while at NEWS CORP. So my view is from the outside. He ascended with scandal and scandal took him down. We take a look in MediaSET: "Roger Ailes: Brilliant and Destructive"... She has one of the most loyal, dedicated fanbases in pop. She represents confidence, empowerment, sexiness, independence. Grownups may never understand, but young women do. Is that what terrorists are afraid of? MusicSET: "The Meaning of Ariana Grande"... HOWARD STERN's interview with JAMIE FOXX is an instant classic. I loved it. Howard is the greatest, but you need a willing guest. And Foxx goes for it. Great stories, impressions. A real winner. Here are some highlights. Listen to SIRIUS XM for repeats... An infinitely big thank you to EVANTUBEHD, COURTNEY HOLT, JIMMY PITARO and DANIEL REYNOLDS at DISNEY for making me the coolest Uncle in the eyes of my niece AMELIE. Yesterday was her 8th birthday. They did me solid... My mother loved to read. Before she died she left a gift-wrapped books with notes for each grandchild to be given for every birthday until they are 12 years old. Amazing. Was choked up a bit... Welcome to the world BABY STELTER.. Happy Birthday to CHRIS MOORE, DASH MIHOK, GREG MAFFEI, DOUG COHN, DAVID SAMUEL, HAMMER, KANYI MAQUBELA, DAVID FRENCH, MITCH JOEL, ERIC SCHUMACHER-RASMUSSEN, LESLIE DICKSTEIN, CAROLYN CANTOR, and ROB BARNETT.
