| | rantnrave:// We're on the redline and no one is coming to save us... KEVIN REILLY is president of TBS and TNT and Chief Creative Officer for TURNER ENTERTAINMENT. We've been friends for close to a decade. A random dinner turned into many pop culture and media conversations over the years. He’s been at FX, NBC and FOX too. I love his taste. It’s like mine, a little dark, and a little humor. I’m glad he’s back at a cable network. I see his (and his team’s) taste coming through. Or that’s how I read it. Some good new shows like GOOD BEHAVIOR and ANIMAL KINGDOM. A pattern? I hope so. Strong female leads with attitude normally associated with males on television. Focuses on what society (or anyone really) may deem the “bad guys” but shows a human side to them. Animal Kingdom is based on the very good 2010 Australian film directed by DAVID MICHÔD (and inspired by a true story) about a wild criminal clan, THE CODYS, run by a powerful matriarch (played by a fantastic JACKI WEAVER in the movie and ELLEN BARKIN on the show). The series has some POINT BREAK. Some SONS OF ANARCHY. And as a gang they may or may not be as stupid as SOA (great show, but as a criminal organization they had the prowess of the current TRUMP administration), we’ll see. I love the manipulation. The strengths and weaknesses of each “son” and the kitchen and food as centerpieces. You’ll see. Think a lioness and her cubs. If you like bad boys, toys, action, and drama – this show is for you. It’s not great yet, but it’s strong and getting stronger. I binged the last season this week while I was laid up with a painful pinched nerve in my neck. I bought it on ITUNES only to get pissed when I realized it was on AMAZON PRIME. We need a GOWATCHIT for TV so I don’t make the new modern media mistake: paying for what I already paid for. Season 2 started last week. As usual - a good score from ATTICUS ROSS. TNT looks to have another good one coming up called CLAWS. SOUTH FLORIDA. Nail Salon. Crime. As a fan of the golden age of television, it's great to watch a network rebuild itself and succeed. FX. USA. AMC. SHOWTIME. Over the last decade, they seemed to come out of nowhere with awesomeness. I think the Turner peeps are next… Over at STARZ, I've been watching THE WHITE PRINCESS. Boy, do those royals have some f***ed up family dynamics... ONE LOVE MANCHESTER. A concert born from horrific tragedy was heartwarming and fun to watch. The vibe and spirit were overwhelmingly positive unlike our leaders here and there... Some games are not meant to be played zero sum... NASA artist's rendering of FLORIDA coastline in the year 2047... Congrats to pal MEREDITH PERRY and her team. This is quite a milestone... Some nice words about the legend that is JUDY MCGRATH ... STEVE STOUTE droppin' science at UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, BERKELEY...
