Alec Baldwin as Donald J. Trump on Saturday Night Live (NBC)
Sunday - October 02, 2016 Sun - 10/02/16
rantnrave:// Can I submit ALEC BALDWIN for an American hero award? SNL's cold open was perfection but a little late for my taste. We needed more SNL during this election. Sometimes humor is the ultimate truth. Maybe an unfair burden to put on LORNE MICHAELS and troop but I depend on them. As actor BILL BOB THORNTON said in the NATIONAL LAMPOON documentary, DRUNK STONED BRILLIANT DEAD: "Through humor, you can tell the truth. It’s the job of a satirist to make people in power feel uncomfortable.” Guest host MARGOT ROBBIE kills it too... My post-surgery media catch-up mission continues. Watched ALEX GIBNEY's fantastic documentary ZERO DAYS. The origins and implications of the STUXNET virus that savaged IRAN's NATANZ nuclear facility. No HOLLYWOOD movie could match the true story. You can't make this stuff up. Fascinating look into how this came to life as a way for the US to steer ISRAEL away from launching military attacks. It's a thriller with all the ingredients: political intrigue, military operations, hi-tech sleuthing, assassinations, betrayal, hypocrisy, fear, and more. Many think cyberwar is virtual with no implications or damage in the physical world. This couldn't be further from the truth. The doc shows that the attack was a pandora's box with still unknown effects on global peace and safety. Ones you can't put back into the box. REDEF's MATTY KARAS often pokes fun at my wide-ranging, often far-fetched and unequal comparisons. Almost everyone in the doc talks about the attacks hypothetically but won't admit anything even though we know they know and they know we know. Made me think of ESPN's 30 for 30's PONY EXCESS. Huh, you say? In that much lighter doc, you see the widespread violations of NCAA rules where alumni paid student-athletes. The only difference? Everyone admits what they did. Often proudly. Yes, it's a terrible comparison to nuclear intrigue, but watching Gibney trying to coax it out of officials is frustrating and at times comical. Not talking about it is dangerous because as the film shows, secrecy hurts reform. This is 2 hours very well spent... Parents that let their kids use devices in restaurants without headphones should be smacked. Not even delving into the use of the device here. Or that the parent in question was on her phone talking on speaker. Maybe even caning instead of smacking... Want to know why sports rights cost so much? Here ya go... Same microphone conspiracy culprits that screwed DONALD TRUMP also screwed CHEVY CHASE in SPIES LIKE US... How can the CARNEGIE DELI be closing? Sadness... It's 2016 and I can't drag and drop an email into a task. WTF?... USA TODAY makes history... Happy Birthday to ROB REID, DAVID GOLDMAN and DANICKO DORSEY.
