| rantnrave:// While everyone talks about AT&T and TIME WARNER, it’s a huge lagging indicator of what's been happening for a while, namely the convergence of distribution and content. Around the ecosystem, we can see some smaller developments that may be leading indicators, specifically around influencers and digital platforms. GOOGLE just bought FAMEBIT, an influencer marketplace. PINTEREST is moving into influencer marketing and FACEBOOK is increasingly interested in sorting through influencer monetization as well. All the platforms are eyeing branded content and influencer marketing as potential pools of money to attack. But it's not the margins that attract them. Branded content and brand integrations have never had sustainable tech sized margins. Too manual, too much work, too hard to scale like a Google or a Facebook. But while the margin is limited and the size of the pool is unclear, it’s a strategic market for them to compete over. In digital advertising, scale is critical. It’s why Facebook and Google keep getting bigger and bigger even though they're already huge. Beyond scale, one way to compete is to go upstream and become more central to the content creation process both for talent and for brands. As we discussed in REDEF TechORIGINAL: "Light at the End of the Funnel: Why the Marketing Revolution is About to Arrive", content and marketing are becoming part of the product experience. Content is brand strategy. Being the link between brands to content creation becomes a huge advantage. It can ensure that content gets made for your platform, you don’t get cut out from the media plan, and content works best on your platform. Platforms that get this will increasingly help connect influencers and content creators with brands. Those that really get the strategic value won’t try and steal the margin from influencers but rather will try to enable a healthy ecosystem. Happy brands and happy creators ultimately win. Short-term greedy loses, long-term greedy wins... The FBI's JAMES COMEY and those emails. What happened? Did he do the right thing? Is it about the election? Here's what we're reading... Very moving piece from CNN's BRIANNA KEILAR. Got choked up. Made me think of my Mom... Through all the noise in this election let's not forget those that have real issues and needs. That's not to be confused with the normalization of blame, hate, racism, and sexism... Happy Birthday to CAROL KRUSE and CONRAD RIGGS. | | - Jason Hirschhorn, curator |
