rantnrave:// LARRY NASSAR's sentencing hearing continues and grows more painful and anger-inducing by the day. Nearly 160 women testified in court about how Nassar's abuse affected them and three more are scheduled for today before Nassar is sentenced. There are at least 190 victims. It is the biggest story in sports and remains under-covered. The former MICHIGAN STATE and USA GYMNASTICS team doctor will probably go to jail for the rest of his life. But there are larger implications. USA Gymnastics has been rightfully criticized for its role in allowing Nassar and other predators to keep working. Michigan State bears responsibility too, but it's not accepting much of it. JOEL FERGUSON, a school trustee, called it "just this Nassar thing" and said the school president should keep her job. He's not alone. The whole board has supported president LOU ANNA SIMON. Their priorities seem clear. If the men's basketball and football programs are doing well, why bother? It's an audacious sign of disrespect to the abused women and to any female athletes at the school. Only reinforces the stereotype that nothing matters but the big men's sports programs. If MSU can't be introspective after a scandal this heinous, what will spur it to action? Ferguson rejects any comparison to PENN STATE's JERRY SANDUSKY calamity and says the NCAA won't step in. NCAA president MARK EMMERT isn't saying anything about it. There's a case to make that Nassar was allowed to prey on young women and girls because of negligence from Michigan State administration and employees and enough people who looked the other way. The NCAA has shown a reticence to play this game. It won't hit UNC for its academic fraud. It hit Penn State hard but then reduced its sanctions after arguments it overstepped its boundaries. Has the NCAA decided that its not worth it to be a legitimate police organization? That it better stick to keeping student-athletes from getting paid? It'll investigate Michigan State but how far will it go to make a case? Is this for show or to send a message?... The A-ROD redemption tour is nearly complete. He'll be a part of ESPN's SUNDAY NIGHT BASEBALL. He'll continue to work for FOX. A-Rod, beloved former baseball star, in your homes every weekend. DEREK JETER, the former perfect YANKEES caption is now an easy target for angry MARLINS fans and sports fans forever indignant about cheap owners prioritizing profits over wins. What a weird turn that took. SportsSET: "A-Rod's Second (Second) Act"... Fire emoji... Said SISYPHUS, chasing that boulder as it rolled away from him again... EAGLES fan who ran into pole is probable for the SUPER BOWL... RIP JIM JOHANNSON.

Larry Nassar was sometimes arrogant, sometimes nervous, during only interview on sex abuse
by Tim Evans
I've conducted somewhere around 10,000 interviews in my 40 years as a journalist, but one in particular has been on my mind lately. It was my Sept. 12, 2016, face-to-face meeting with longtime USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar. The reflection was spurred by days of raw, emotional testimony over the last week in a Michigan courtroom.

The MLBPA Is Failing Its Players
by Emma Baccellieri
There are 23 days until pitchers and catchers begin reporting for spring training. There are somewhere in the neighborhood of 150 free-agent players who remain unsigned. The brutal slowness of this offseason is more than simply boring, and it is long past the point where it might reasonably be seen as a simple accident.
