| rantnrave:// The CHIEFS are the NFL's most fun offense. Head coach ANDY REID is a magician. KC's scored the second-most points in the league with a QB who wasn't supposed to be able to throw deep, a third-rounder and second-string running back, one freakish wide receiver and a reality show tight end. College offenses are en vogue but the Chiefs are running something that looks like it belongs on a Friday night in TEXAS. Direct snaps to TRAVIS KELCE. Hand offs to TYREKE HILL inside the 10. Even when the Chiefs lose, Reid can look brilliant. The Chiefs are an example of how system and skills blend. KC doesn't have top talent but it has several gifted players -- enough of them to overcome an overly-cautious QB -- and the willingness to try new things. They're not disruptors. They're creative. The Chiefs could've trotted out the same offense they used to go 12-4 last season. Deviating from success takes chutzpah. Wish some other teams would take a few chances too. There's a dearth of good QBs. Why not try to change things up? The EAGLES put up 51 points on a very-good BRONCOS defense and cornerback CHRIS HARRIS said it was because they were running a "college offense." That's a compliment. The spread offense has taken over the NFL. Five wide. Pistol. Run-pass option. 60/40 run splits. Three-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust is dead. The best teams are the ones experimenting. If only more of them were willing to try... A US runner hadn't won the women's NYC MARATHON since 1977. SHALANE FLANAGAN ended that. The symbolism was strong. Winning it the week of a terror attack in lower MANHATTAN. Like MEB KEFLEZIGHI winning BOSTON the year after the BOSTON BOMBINGS. Mushy, sure, but still sweet. Meb ended his career with an 11th-place finish. Goodbye to one of the best US runners ever. KENYAN GEOFFREY KAMWOROR won the men's race... COLIN KAEPERNICK v. the NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE... Pep talks work. Not this one... THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL is moving to NBC for the rest of the season. Can we blame the NFL for taking THE GOOD PLACE away from us?... Shoot your shot... Not too late to jump on the ASTROS bandwagon... When you tweet something dumb but say your TWITTER's been hacked... JETS dance to anything... What POP said. | | - Mike Vorkunov, curator |

It might not shock you to learn that the most viral video this season on the NBA's official Instagram feed is a clip of LeBron James. Duh. But what is shocking? This video does not capture his dunking in transition, whipping a pass around multiple defenders or swatting a fast-break layup into the first row.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have been one of this season's surprise teams at 4-3, but they have been anything but consistent. Jacksonville opened the season with a dominant win in Houston and then lost to Tennessee by three touchdowns at home ... before destroying Baltimore in London.

They offer players a putrid punch in the nose but likely little actual performance boost. So how exactly did smelling salts become an essential part of NFL game days?

Something to think about as scouting season gets underway: we all make mistakes in the draft. We shouldn’t run from them, but learn from them.
