| rantnrave:// SAM HINKIE has finally opened up. He was a black box as the 76ERS GM but since being fired he’s gone out to find himself in SILICON VALLEY. We may learn a lot about where the NBA, and maybe sports, is trending by Hinkie’s next job. Professional organizations are inherently risk-averse. Hinkie was a risk-taker. You can can argue that he failed, but I'll disagree. And lesser GMs have received second chances. Is anyone in the NBA willing to hire him to run a team again? Is anyone ready to accept outlier thought processes that don’t dovetail with conventional wisdom? This is a basic question, asked all the time. The executives who hit big get all the publicity but that takes time. Look at the CUBS or WARRIORS. There’s little utility to being a visionary if no one else can see the vision… Finally, some good news among a sludge of bad news. Good for ISAIAH AUSTIN. Can you imagine the emotion he felt when he learned his career wasn’t actually over?... The best soccer celebration you might see this year… Is sports a religion? This documentary series says it is. I’m not sure what it says about all of us if we paint entertainment in pious terms, but sounds like a show worth watching… The TWINS may be giving their employees the option to take personal leave for family occasions for all the right reasons, but it also gives them a competitive advantage in luring talent. I’ve heard from several executives who struggle with work/life balance. Don’t we all. | | - Mike Vorkunov, curator |

He can't lose. He can dead-lift nearly 600 pounds. He is Russell Wilson, but he is 18 years old. He is Johnny Football with his shoes on fire, plus he's a good person, more chiseled and-oh, yeah-that hair. If Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Hurts is too good to be true, then, well, who is he? | |
