He didn't go out and rob a bank. He didn't shoot anybody. He said two foul words on Snapchat. We don't condone it. We don't want it. It was a mistake on his part. He understands that. He was remorseful. We handled it internally. It's a social media gaffe. He didn't go out and jump off a bridge. He didn't push nobody off a building. | | Christian McCaffrey stiff-armed the Sun Bowl. | rantnrave:// CHRISTIAN MCCAFFREY skipping the SUN BOWL and LEONARD FOURNETTE passing on the BUFFALO WILD WINGS BOWL may well lead to the irrelevance of non-playoff bowl games but, more important, it’s another moment of self-realization for college athletes. They have leverage and power and are beginning to wield it. McCaffery’s move was a basic one. He chose his pro career over one inconsequential bowl game. In the future, college athletes may use games like these as bargaining power to extract something greater. And if acting “selfishly” and “quitting” is what it takes to do it, so be it… MICHAEL PHELPS, the greatest Olympian ever, has retired and the news passes by with more a whisper than the volume it deserves. Maybe it’s because he’s retired before or that no one pays much attention to SUMMER Olympic athletes outside of AUGUST every four years but Phelps was unique. He wasn’t just great, he didn’t just have the longevity of four OLYMPICS, he was a vacuum of attention for the sport annually. And he was interesting, not least of all because he seemed human with his public failings that could not be constrained by PR spin... If you want review his career, check out our SportsREDEF set "Michael Phelps: Olympic Legend"… I love the NFL DRAFT. I’ll say this proudly. I watched the draft before it was cool and when Sundays meant sitting on the couch for rounds 4-7. But even I’ll pass on attending the NFL COMBINE as a fan. The NFL certainly knows how to publicize every nook and cranny of its schedule so there will be no passing judgment here on opening the combine to fans. I just hope there are outlets close to all those seats… Another international athletic competition, another host plagued by allegations of human rights violations. Be better, BELARUS. Sometimes it seems like hosting the Olympics or the EUROS or whatever is just a way to project power to the rest of the world. Now, about that L.A. 2024 bid… The best of 2016 lists have begun. This is an impeccably well-done one by the WASHINGTON POST. | | - Mike Vorkunov, curator |

I've hiked and camped alone for 15 years, and my love of solitude balances out the stress of waiting for the dawn. A few seasons back, I began to talk with other adventurous ladies about my fear of sleeping outdoors by myself, and to my surprise, I heard similar stories from some of the toughest women I know.

The sporting goods industry has faced brutal headwinds this year in the US, especially at the retail level. Brick-and-mortar sports chains like Sports Authority, Bob’s Stores, Eastern Mountain Sports, and Sports Chalet have all filed for bankruptcy. Even amidst this, Adidas has thrived. It has turned things around in America, where it struggled most. That starts with sneakers.
