Landry flights: For years, Jeff Landry, the leading Republican candidate for governor, has received the perk of private plane rides from some of his biggest campaign donors, Sam Karlin reports. The free flights have rarely been reported on campaign finance reports, and the state Ethics Board has said the perk violates state law. Special session? Incoming Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple says the state Legislature should hold a special session in January to address the state's property insurance crisis, Karlin reports. Temple would like to change a law that bars insurers from dropping a customer after three years, among other changes. Lt. Governor's race: Though Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser faces five candidates in his bid for reelection, his victory is likely, as none of his opponents have the funds to mount a formidable challenge. Others in the race are Tami Hotard, Gary Rispone, Willie Jones, Bruce Payton and former state Sen. Elbert Guillory, Tyler Bridges reports. |
