| How do we hold on to joy though this world gives way to grief?
That’s the question Rachel Marie Kang asks in a recent CT article. Reflecting on the miracle of the Resurrection, Kang notes that when the risen Jesus appears to Mary, he immediately makes room for her sadness.
“Why are you crying?” Jesus asks her. He attunes himself to her grief, even as he himself is the comfort.
“This is how Jesus has always been,” writes Kang. “He is the Word become flesh, taking on human form to dwell and dine, suffer and celebrate with us. He is our risen Lord, bending an ear to Mary, lingering in the first moments of their reunion at the garden tomb. He is God, standing beside man in the garden at the beginning of time.”
As we continue in this Easter season, may we rejoice that the same Lord who rose again is the one who bends down to draw close to us. |
