Finished harvest yesterday. I finished on a field that the wind blew down. I had cut part of it for silage, and it was appraised at 220 bu/acre then. Yield monitor showed 159 bu,....thankfully there wasn't much of the field left. Despite the terrible start to the year, overall yields were better than expected. I believe that was the case for most in the area. My bins are full, and there are huge corn piles at most every elevator. There are also a lot more bags of crop at the ends of fields. In talking with my agronomist about this, I am certain that part of the reason that those piles exist was that more corn and less beans were planted last spring. I know that that was the situation for the 3 of us that harvest together. Good luck to those of you still hard at work. Stay safe.
