Dear Reader,

Tisha B’Av, the most somber day of the Jewish year, begins this Saturday at sundown. Jews all over the world will observe a day of mourning and commemoration.

At the Forward we know that uniting our community in times of tragedy is one of our most important roles as a newspaper. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve gone far beyond publishing. We’ve covered the unique ways COVID impacted Jewish communities around the world and brought our community together to share in difficult conversations to learn from the rich wisdom of Jewish tradition. We created a revitalized obituary section and reintroduced our Scribe platform to better showcase our community's voices.

On Tisha B'Av, we also remember the history of those who came before us and honor the values that they taught us. We know that for many of our readers, the Forward has been a family tradition handed down through generations. This weekend we'll reflect on the ways these values carry forward to the next generation as well.

Supporting the Forward, an institution cherished by many who are now gone, is one way to honor their memory while creating a future for Jewish journalism. We hope you may join us on this holiday by donating today.

In remembrance,
