| | | | | | Ever wondered what it's like to live on a deserted Galápagos island? In 1964, June Nelson and her late zoologist husband Bryan spent a year living on two uninhabited, waterless Galápagos Islands studying the boobies. After months of bad weather, deteriorating food and persistent ailments, the end of their stay was bizarrely marked by a visit by the Duke of Edinburgh and the Royal Yacht Britannia. Barefoot and in rags, they were invited to dine on board! Join June as she describes not only the challenges but also the delights of having a desert island all to yourself, the many fun times she enjoyed with Bryan, the kindly folk they met, and the thrill of living and working with so many trusting creatures. The talk will be introduced by Hilary Bradt who has long been a fan of Bryan’s resulting book and who has encouraged June to write an updated version. FREE to attend for our Travel Club members (you can sign up here if you are not already a member); for everyone else, tickets cost £5 which can be redeemed against a copy of Galapagos Crusoes. | | |
