Announcing Winners And Event Details Digital media innovators gathered on a crisp, cold Friday for the annual Cynopsis Model D and It List Awards. The view from Tribeca’s ThreeSixty was spectacular, but the main attraction was the stellar gathering of finalists and honorees. It was a surprisingly lively crowd for an early start, goosed by the event’s first presenter, Lou Diamond Phillips, who revved up the crowd with jokes about mimosas. Fubo Sports host Julie Stewart-Binks laughed about having to follow Phillips (“Thank god you’re eating right now,” she told the audience) but proved more than up to the task.
Next up was presenter comedian Jack Usher, from Pumped.com, who was tasked with calling out the It List winners. (“When I came here I thought I was announcing the winners, but turns out it’s in the program,” said Usher.) Winners offered the best pieces of advice they’ve ever gotten, which included “Be brief, be right, and be gone, ” “There’s a lot of ways to get shot, don’t shoot yourself,” and “When you’re engaged and planning a wedding, act interested” (“Sounds like that lesson was learned the hard way,” noted Usher). Usher also presented the Ellen Digital crew with a bottle of champagne for the morning’s loudest cheers.
Meredith Kinsman, SVP, Digital Strategy at Octagon, presented the Luminary Award to Rebecca Lowe, host of NBC Sports Group’s Premier League. Kinsman cited accomplishments including Lowe’s award-winning coverage of the Olympics, horse-racing, and more, not the least of which is being the bicoastal, working mom of a toddler. Lowe credited her NBC Sports team for their passion and “crazy hours,” as well as the benefits of dry shampoo.
MTV professional matchmaker Devyn Simone was morning’s the final presenter. “This is literally a room full of geniuses here,” noted Simone. “Because of you, I’ve had to update my data plan every year.” Model D winners were asked to name the shows they’re binge-watching, and those included everything from PAW Patrol and The Great British Baking Show, to Fleabag and Temptation Island, with a few Successions, and – of course - Lou Diamond Phillips’ Fox drama, Prodigal Son.
