Rapper Kanye West’s bid to land on Minnesota’s presidential ballot as an independent candidate is under review after his associates submitted paperwork and signatures Tuesday. While West wouldn’t be the only alternative to Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden in a race that could be a close finish, his candidacy has attracted considerable scrutiny because of his celebrity and connections to the incumbent president.
A new memorial will be placed for a man lynched along the Red River in Grand Forks. The crime is nearly 140 years old. The effort to redress the injustice, more than two decades in the making. His name was Charles Thurber, a Black man in his 30s, hung by a mob of hundreds. The marker has been in the works for years, but the killing of George Floyd was a catalyst to finally get it installed.
The latest on COVID-19 in Minnesota: Total cases top 66k. New cases were way down Tuesday but so was testing volume — the drop could be attributable to the lower number of tests. The number of people in intensive care is roughly flat at 154. The number of deaths trended up slightly to nine. Overall - the outbreak appears to be stable, as health officials have been saying in recent days, but at a relatively high number of active cases.
