Something might catch my eye, inviting me to explore further. It may be the light, the shadows, a stillness, or a sense of movement. As I paint, I become aware of what is present beyond what I can see, and that becomes part of the painting. In my other work as a nurse-midwife I have been with people in some of the most physically and emotionally intense times of life - often exciting and joyful, but also sometimes difficult and painful. These experiences have given me an understanding of deeply felt emotions and a sensitivity that I try to bring to my work as an artist. I want my paintings to reflect the deeply felt experiences we have - those moments when we are fully present in our surroundings and in ourselves.
