Dear Friend, Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina! Enhancing School Security As we continue grieving the loss of 19 innocent children’s lives in Uvalde, I introduced the Safe Schools Act along with Senator Roger Marshall (R-Kan.) to help prevent a tragedy like this from happening again. This commonsense bill will allow for schools’ unused COVID funding to be redirected to enhance security measures such as locks, panic buttons, individual room security systems, video surveillance, and hiring and paying the salaries of school resource officers. With $150 billion in unused COVID funds remaining, this is a no-brainer to help keep our children safe! Click here to read more. Seeking Answers on Wasteful Spending Wasteful government spending under the Biden administration has contributed to the rise in inflation, which — at 8.6 percent — amounts to a crushing tax on hardworking Americans. This week, I joined all of my fellow Republicans on the Finance Committee in calling for a detailed accounting of the $350 billion that was sent to state and local governments in the Democrats’ massive spending bill last year. Americans deserve to know how their money is being spent. Click here to read more about our letter to the Government Accountability Office. Fighting for Farmers and Ranchers The Biden administration’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) recently proposed a rule that would require companies to disclose their emissions and other alleged climate-related risks. This federal overreach could severely burden farmers and ranchers across the nation, who are already struggling with increased costs. I led a letter with Senator Hoeven (R-N.D.), calling on SEC Commissioner Gary Gensler to withdraw this harmful proposal. Click here to read more about the letter in support of farmers and ranchers. Calling for Transparency from Public Health Agencies This week, I joined fellow Republicans in urging the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to provide clarity on how they plan to transition out of the COVID-19 public health emergency. Contradictory actions taken by the Biden administration have confused the public and destroyed confidence in our health agencies. While the administration worked to end Title 42 at our border (citing the waning threat of COVID), for example, they fought for continued mask mandates on domestic flights. Click here to read our letter pointing out these contradictions and calling for greater transparency moving forward. Sincerely, |
