Dear Friend,
Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!
Keeping the Golden Years Golden
As ranking member of the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging, I’m committed to ensuring that Americans in their Golden Years are able to live comfortably as they approach retirement. This week, I held a hearing with the committee’s chair, Senator Bob Casey (D-Pa.), on retirement security. Witnesses—including Greenville’s Spencer Williams, president and CEO of Retirement Clearinghouse—spoke on current trends and gaps in the retirement system, along with ways it can be improved.

I also released a full report this week titled “The American Dream in our Golden Years: Improving Retirement Security and Building Independence,” which examines our current retirement system and recommends several improvements. As I state in the report, one of the key complications for aging Americans is the Retirement Earnings Test (RET), a confusing government rule that disincentivizes work. This week, I introduced a bill with my friend Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) to eliminate the RET altogether, empowering seniors to continue doing what they love in their Golden Years, knowing their retirement will be secure when the time comes. Democrats Plow Forward with Reckless Spending
The Democrats are planning to spend more money this fiscal year than any country on earth has ever spent. But despite the gravity of their plans, they have completely shut Republicans out of discussions about their upcoming spending bill—a bill that will change America as we know it. I called out this dangerous lack of transparency in a Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee executive session this week. Click here for my remarks.
I also discussed the Democrats’ reckless spending plans and more on Fox News’s “Coast to Coast” with Neil Cavuto. We had a great conversation – click the image below to watch!
