Animated theatre pioneers 1927 present their latest show, Please Right Back at the Southbank Centre, 21 December-5 January. This poignant coming of age tale brings to life the letters sent by an absent father (Mr E) to his children, which relay a series of fantastical exploits masking a more sobering truth.
Part social realism, part science fiction, this Burgtheater Vienna co-production takes audiences on an odyssey through one man’s imagination, combining live performance and music with deliciously vivid, comic book-style animation. If this is your first 1927 production, trust us when we say you’re about to witness a show unlike any you’ve seen before.

Boundary-pushing sounds rebound around Kings Place on 30 October, as Korean fusion musicians Black String play tracks from their yet-to-be-released album Road of Oasis. Inspired by the ancient Silk Road, this sonic attack of jazz, rock and world music takes its cue from the shamanic sounds of ‘dang-gut’. The Songlines Music Awards winners are joined by avant garde piper Cassandre Balbar.
