| By Drew Broach | Deputy metro editor BELATED: Calvin Johnson, the retired New Orleans judge, had been waiting a half century for an apology, after he was arrested and convicted as a teenager for “inciting a riot,” that is, participating in a peaceful march to integrate his high school. He received the surprise apology on Thursday - from Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards, no less - when he turned up at Loyola University law school’s baccalaureate Mass. ENCORE: For the second consecutive summer, New Orleans police are getting help from State Police in patrolling the streets and enforcing a curfew designed to keep youths inside after 8 p.m. on weekdays and 9 p.m. on weekends. They hope the extra staffing will help slow 2022’s increase in violent crime.
