"European values of democracy, rule of law and legal certainty have been jeopardised in Catalonia", says Mariano Rajoy

The President of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, attended the investiture ceremony at the University of Salamanca on Thursday morning for the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, and former European Commissioner, Manuel Marn, as doctors honoris causa. At a press briefing beforehand, he welcomed the backing received from all countries of the European Union regarding the situation in Catalonia.

Mariano Rajoy hopes that elections on 21 December lead to a "new period of calm, normality and co-existence"

The President of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, at the Government Control Session held in the Lower House of Parliament, expressed his wish for a "mass" turnout in the elections called for 21 December and that a new panorama emerges that leads to "calm, security and certainty for citizens".

President of the Government receives President of Israel

The President of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, received the President of Israel, Reuven Rivlin, at Moncloa Palace, within the framework of the State visit he is making to Spain. During the meeting, the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to stepping up bilateral relations and tackled regional affairs.

Government authorises Spain's participation in launch of Permanent Structured Cooperation of EU

The Council of Ministers also approved the Draft Constitutional Law on Data Protection and aid to alleviate the damage caused by wildfires in Galicia, Asturias, Huelva, Leon, Albacete and Valencia. The government also agreed on measures relating to the elections for the Regional Parliament of Catalonia on 21 December.
