Good evening everyone, We have passed the grimmest of totals. According to John Hopkins University, more than one million people across the world have now died of Covid-19. Some of them are the most vulnerable people in our society - the elderly and those with serious underlying medical conditions. And yet there are still people who believe that Covid-19 does not exist. These are the people who refuse to wear masks, complain that their civil liberties are being undermined and break the rules around meeting up with friends and family. If they were only putting themselves at risk, perhaps we could just shrug out shoulders and accept it. But they are not. They are putting us all at risk and particularly those who are most likely to get the most severe symptoms associated with the virus. It is often said that the true test of a civilised society lies in how it deals with its most vulnerable people. Sadly, we appear to have failed the test, from the shocking death toll in our care homes to the devil-may-care attitude of some of those who live amongst us.
