News laws, new budget take effect in Minnesota on July 1

A slate of new laws take hold Tuesday adding new fraud mitigation efforts, rules for social media influencers and adoption of a state fossil.
 
‘I’m just a huge fan’: Justin Vernon of Bon Iver on his love for the Lynx, new partnership

If you’ve been to a Minnesota Lynx game, chances are you’ve seen Justin Vernon in attendance. Vernon recently debuted a first-of-its-kind partnership with the WNBA to fight gender inequity.
🔋 Native-led EV program connects south Minneapolis neighborhood to growing energy network. Native Sun Community Development Power CEO Robert Blake announced that the nonprofit organization will soon install a DC fast charger outside the Red Lake Nation Embassy, located near the intersection of Franklin and Cedar Avenues in south Minneapolis.

🏍️ Motorcycles in Minnesota will now be able to split lanes — here's what that means.  The legislation, which was passed in 2024 but doesn’t take effect until Tuesday, allows for driving techniques known as “lane splitting” and “lane filtering,” but only in specific situations.

🐎 Rare wild Asian horse foal finds a new mom at Minnesota Zoo. Marat, a Przewalski’s horse, fell critically ill soon after his birth at the Minnesota Zoo nearly two months ago. He survived thanks to intensive care. But his mother rejected him when he returned.

🥅 St. Paul’s Xcel Energy Center will now be Grand Casino Arena. The downtown St. Paul hockey arena hosts NHL and PWHL games, concerts and several state high school championship tournaments.
