Who is Jane Kleeb?
Our keynote speaker this year will be Jane Kleeb, author of “Harvest the Vote - How Democrats Can WIN again in Rural America.” We invited Jane Kleeb to be our keynote speaker because she's a successful Democratic leader from a red rural state that mirrors our region of Southern Oregon. Jane is an experienced grassroots organizer, manager, political strategist and nonprofit entrepreneur and the chair of the Democratic Party of Nebraska. Recently profiled by PBS in a film called “Blue Wind on a Red Prairie,” She is a leader who deeply understands the need to connect issues that rural and urban communities are facing to politics in order to win elections. Thanks to her work in building coalitions with rural stakeholders and stopping the Keystone pipeline, she earned the nick name "Keystone Killer".
What is the Roosevelt-Kennedy Dinner?
Our traditional Roosevelt-Kennedy Dinner has a long history. The first Roosevelt Memorial Dinner in Jackson County was held more than 70 years ago in 1950 and was organized by the Eleanor Roosevelt League of the Rogue Valley. This dinner honored Democratic President Franklin D. Roosevelt who passed away in 1945. In 1956, former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt visited the Rogue Valley and spoke at the dinner. Then, just a few years later, John Kennedy was visiting the Rogue Valley and served as Grand Marshall of the Pear Blossom Parade. During that weekend, he was a speaker at the Roosevelt Dinner and announced his candidacy for President. The tradition has continued over the years with some very distinguished speakers.
Why support the Roosevelt-Kennedy Dinner?
The Midterm Elections are quickly approaching. While all elections matter, the Midterms this year are crucial for the Democrats. Here in Jackson County, we'll be working hard to not only preserve the Democratic majority in the Oregon House, Senate and Governor's office, but also to replace the two Republicans on our county Board of Commissioners. All proceeds from the Roosevelt-Kennedy dinner will benefit our Build the Blue in 2022 fund. Thanks to our donors--we're more than a third of the way to our goal of raising $35,000. Will you please help us reach that goal by purchasing a ticket and making a donation TODAY?
Thank you again to everyone who has already purchased a ticket. Please invite your friends and help us fill the house for this important event.
This will be our last event before the Democratic Primary Elections on May 17th. Thank you for your support and for helping to elect Democrats in Jackson County!
