For the past year, I've mentored interns at a local media organization in Baltimore, with a focus on my role in journalism and media. In our first meeting, a young Black woman expressed her aspiration to get published. Today, I'm pleased to announce we achieved a milestone and closed out our Entertainment Tech Month by publishing her feature on a colleague's journey as a video editor.

Also, I dug up some key insights from UpSurge Baltimore's latest report on the regional tech ecosystem. Enjoy!

A video editor's journey to working with BET

In this new collaborative feature, Wide Angle Youth Media intern Janai Cherry chronicled Ben Loviglio-Wolf's path from childhood fascination to professional success in video editing and visual effects.

Through his involvement with Wide Angle, a nonprofit amplifying Baltimore youth voices, Loviglio-Wolf found support and guidance that propelled his career. Today, he works as a full-time creative and freelancer, producing content for clients like BET and Keke Palmer.

A snapshot of the region’s tech landscape

The UpSurge Baltimore Annual Meeting last week provided some key insights into the evolving local tech landscape.

The org's newly released 2024 Baltimore Tech Ecosystem Report builds on and previous studies this by outlining the current status of the local tech scene, especially with respect to the org's push for diversity and equity in the ecosystem.
