Opening Hours for German Unity Day | |

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | The DDR Museum has its usual opening hours on October 3rd 2017. From 10am till 8pm you can enjoy a hands-on experience of history on this public holiday.
If you wish to avoid queues at the entrance, we recommend to purchase an online ticket beforehand, so you can visit the DDR Museum without waiting. |

ARMED PEACE
SPECIAL EXHIBITION | |

| | | | | | | | | | | | | Since 1987, the wall of a bulding in the Nikolaiviertel flaunted a peace dove and the inscription »Berlin - City of Peace«. This title, given by the Soviet-led World Peace Council, could have seem at odds at the time of barbed wire and Death Strip - but it did not. The official version was that on August 13th 1961, peace was saved by the building of the Wall. The »first peaceful-state on German soil« was armed to the teeth. |

| | | | | | | | This is precisely why the SED regime was nervous when the independent peace movement was formed under the symbol of «Swords to Plowshares«. The peace groups became the germ cell of the movement which led to the peaceful revolution and gave the inscription on the wall a new meaning. The special exhibition in the foyer is dedicated to this topic. |
