Katherine Collins’ Riot Girls US rights picked up by Cranked Up Films

XYZ Films has licensed US rights to the apocalyptic adventure Riot Girls, from writer Katherine Collins (NSI Features First), to Good Deed Entertainment’s new genre label, Cranked Up Films.

Madison Iseman and Paloma Kwiatkowski (pictured) star in Riot Girls which takes place after a mysterious illness has killed all adults leaving the town of Potter’s Bluff divided into two factions – the ‘East side,’ made up of scavengers, and the ‘West side,’ which hoards its wealth in the former high school and is ruled by a tyrant played by Munro Chambers.

Jovanka Vuckovic is directing and Lauren Grant serves as producer.

The distributor has earmarked a summer 2019 theatrical and on demand release.

Tricia Lee makes the 2019 Bitch List of most-liked Bechdel Test-passing scripts

Tricia Lee (NSI Diverse TV Director) has made the 2019 Bitch List with her script Spoken. The Bitch List is an annual listing of the most-liked Bechdel Test-passing scripts that have yet to be greenlit for production.

In Spoken an Asian-American college student, who has a tumultuous relationship with her overbearing mother, is informed by the dean of Harvard that she needs to be more well-rounded. She meets a spoken word artist and discovers an affinity for poetry. Along the way, she’s forced to confront family expectations and must dig deep into her own vulnerabilities and get past her Asian stoicism to discover who she really is, what she wants to do and how she will tell her family.

This year’s Bitch List has an emphasis on scripts by and about women of colour.
