Glass Slipper

A young, black ballerina struggles to dance the part of Cinderella while dealing with the anxiety and paranoia brought on by anonymous bullying attacks in her dance company.

Filmmaker’s statement

Glass Slipper is the final product of four years of metaphorical and literal blood, sweat and tears. Created as a thesis projected, Glass Slipper was written and shot with the intent of bringing to light the physical and emotional impact bullying has on creative expression.

Follow teenage ballerina Tamera at dance school as she navigates the waters of identity, race, mental health and teenagehood, all while attempting to master the titular role in her school’s production of Cinderella.

We made this film as a love letter to all the girls who have ever been bullied and had it impact their artistic performance. We wanted to validate their experiences as well as our own, and emphasize that nothing matters more than your happiness and, because of that, sometimes you don’t get the fairy-tale ending.

About Eve Krogman

Eve is an emerging producer/director/writer and recent grad of the bachelor of film and television degree program at Sheridan College.

During her studies she became obsessed with vintage architecture, impact producing and authentic Canadian storytelling.

Look out for her latest production Gyno, a dark comedy about a woman’s first time at the gynaecologist, hitting the festival circuit soon.

Seeing Sound

A short documentary about a young musician who is unable to read sheet music and couldn’t care less if his socks match or not.

The story showcases his skills on various musical instruments, including the accordion.

About Alec Jordan

Alec Jordan is a driven young filmmaker with a passion for storytelling and realism. He’s a recent graduate of the broadcasting (television and video production) program at Canadore College and will graduate from the digital cinematography program in spring 2019.

With Alec’s vision being more on the camera side of things, he likes to keep his crew small to pursue both directing and camera operating.

Swim Alone

Filmmaker’s statement

Swim Alone is not just a story about young love. It poses the question of how we emotionally process the end of a relationship when we cannot rationally explain it. What feeling do we decide to hold on to when we remember a person who is no longer part of our lives?

Most love stories deal with relationships that crumble due to external conflict or directly as a result of a character’s actions. However, more often than not, relationships simply end because love fades or because one person drifts away needing to deal with things on their own. Swim Alone is about the latter, looking to capture the feeling of confusion, pain and melancholy that result.

Guy Ettlin is a writer, director and producer with Nyx Labs based in Montreal. Swim Alone is his directorial debut in film after having worked in theatre for over 10 years.

He currently resides in London, England.
