NSI grads at the 2019 Ontario Creates International Financing Forum

Ontario Creates has announced the participants of the 14th edition of Ontario Creates annual International Financing Forum (IFF), taking place September 8 and 9, 2019 during Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

Included among the Canadian projects heading to the event are producer Glen Wood’s (NSI Features First) 50,000 Words with director Pat Mills (NSI Drama Prize, NSI Totally Television, NSI Features First, NSI Script to Screen), The Power of Nothing from producer Anand Ramayya (NSI Drama Prize, NSI Totally Television, Global Marketing) and Sweethearts from producer Jeremy Torrie (NSI Aboriginal Cultural Trade Initiative, Featuring Aboriginal Stories Program).

The forum includes one-on-one meetings, an industry panel discussion and networking events.

University students passionate about creating innovative children’s content: apply for the Youth Media Alliance Andra Sheffer Scholarship

Are you an entrepreneurial Canadian student at university level with a talent and passion for creating innovative children’s content? If so, the Youth Media Alliance wants to hear from you.

Through the Andra Sheffer Scholarship, they present a $6K cash and in-kind award to two outstanding Canadian students planning to pursue a career in children’s television (animation or live action) or digital media production.

The scholarship includes attendance at Kidscreen Summit in Miami and the Banff World Media Festival plus exposure and opportunities to pursue a career in the children’s media industry.

A young employee of a rural dairy farm is experiencing anxiety regarding her unexpected pregnancy. She finds it difficult to ignore her feelings as she is surrounded by pregnant cows on the farm whose milk she helps to collect after they give birth.

After receiving a ‘wyd’ text – gen z shorthand for “what you doing?” – Josh tries to craft a low-key response.

When a single mom, facing eviction, is offered a night’s work she unsuccessfully seeks a babysitter for her two small children. Desperate, she reaches out to the last person she wants to ask for a favour.

Call for films / submit by September 3

We’re accepting films through FilmFreeway until Tuesday, September 3, 2019. Films chosen during this call period will premiere in the NSI Online Short Film Festival between September 16 and December 2, 2019. Films must play for a minimum of three months after their premiere date.

We accept films released after January 1, 2014. If your film is programmed, you have a chance of winning the $1,250 A&E Short Filmmakers Award for best film.

All NSI Online Short Film Festival winners receive a complimentary Friend membership for the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television and are qualified to be nominated for a Canadian Screen Award (if award criteria are met).

Your film must be less than 30 mins. Drama, comedy, animation, documentary, sci-fi, horror, music video and experimental are all eligible and must be made by a Canadian writer, director or producer.

The NSI Online Short Film Festival is a year-round Canadian short film showcase with new films added every week. Since launching in 2008, the festival has programmed hundreds of films and awarded over $125K to Canadian media artists. Many of the films are available to watch in the archives.
