Films from NSI grads on TIFF’s list of must-see Atlantic films Posted: 22 Mar 2016 12:43 PM PDT The Disappeared from Shandi Mitchell (NSI Features First, NSI Drama Prize) and Down to the Dirt from Justin Simms (NSI Drama Prize) have been featured in TIFF’s recent list of 10 films from Atlantic Canada that everyone should see. The films were chosen by Dr. Darrell Varga, who’s the Canada research chair in contemporary film and media studies at the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design, and the author of Shooting from the East: Filmmaking on the Canadian Atlantic which launched at TIFF Bell Lightbox last month. |
Nadine Valcin wins Freeze Frame youth jury award Posted: 22 Mar 2016 12:35 PM PDT Ripples, from filmmaker Nadine Valcin (NSI Drama Prize), recently won the youth jury prize for best short film at the 20th Freeze Frame International Film Festival for Kids of All Ages. Ripples is about Aissa, a nine-year-old who accompanies her mother to one of the houses where she works as a cleaning lady. At the swimming pool in the back yard Aissa is bullied by the young daughter of her mother’s employer, with tragic consequences. But she is unable to tell her mother what happened. |
