Multimedia exhibit Mixed Berries showcases work of Bracken Hanuse Corlett, Amanda Strong

Catch NSI Aboriginal Documentary short Mia’ from Amanda Strong and Bracken Hanuse Corlett at Gallery 2 in Grand Forks, BC as part of Mixed Berries – an exhibit centered around the production of the film.

Alongside the screening of Mia’ and display of the associated film set and props, Amanda and Bracken present new works from the past year.

Amanda and Bracken gave a statement about the show:

“We come from backgrounds that span many territories, both Indigenous and European. This mixing has an innate yet perhaps unquantifiable impact on the work we do. Mixed berries, mixed medicine, mixed paint, process and practice.”

Mixed Berries is on until November 19.

NSI grads chosen for 2016 Whistler film fest talent labs

Congratulations to the NSI grads selected to develop their projects through the Whistler Film Festival 2016 talent labs (PDF download).

Whistler Feature Project Lab finalists include Harry Cherniak with NSI Features First-developed project Little Kings, Joe Balass (NSI Features First) with Calorie and Jeremy Torrie (NSI Aboriginal Cultural Trade Initiative, Featuring Aboriginal Stories Program) with Old Magic.

Praxis Screenwriters Lab finalists include Dusty Mancinelli with NSI Features First-developed project Little Kings.

Jeremy Torrie and NSI’s programming director Brendon Sawatzky will serve as advisors for the Whistler Aboriginal Filmmaker Fellowship.
