Jordana Aarons’ ROPEd screens at Sedona Film Fest

ROPEd, a short from producer Jordana Aarons (NSI Totally Television, NSI Features First), screens at the Sedona International Film Festival starting this weekend.

Based on Margaret Atwood’s poem Half-Hanged Mary and on true events that took place in 1685 in Hadley, Massachusetts, ROPEd is about a fiercely independent woman condemned by her neighbours to die by hanging.

The film is part of two shorts programs, screening on February 19 and 21.

Janelle Wookey, Jennifer Bowen-Allen part of Hot Docs Canada 150 film on Charter of Rights and Freedoms

Hot Docs has commissioned its first film as part of its Canada 150 celebrations.

In the Name of All Canadians features six short documentaries, inspired by Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms, packaged into one feature-length film.

Janelle Wookey (NSI Business for Producers) will direct film 5 about the difficulties in teaching French in Manitoba public schools as recalled through a story of school inspectors in the 1930’s and 1940’s.

Jennifer Bowen-Allen (NSI IndigiDocs, formerly known as NSI Aboriginal Documentary) will produce film 1 exploring the first ever Indigenous freedom of religion challenge to go before the Supreme Court of Canada.

Each short film follows its own narrative but will be stylistically linked to present a cohesive experience for viewers.

The film screens on June 28 at the Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema in Toronto and then tours the country for special screenings with partner festivals and film organizations. It will also be available through iTunes.
