Fire Song screens in Winnipeg as part of The Decolonizing Lens programming

The Decolonizing Lens and the Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG) will host two screenings of Fire Song from Adam Garnet Jones (Featuring Aboriginal Stories Program, NSI Storytellers, Corus Diverse TV Director) and Laura Milliken (Featuring Aboriginal Stories Program) alongside short The Grandfather Drum.

Both events are followed by a discussion with filmmakers Adam Garnet Jones and Michelle Derosier.

The first screening takes place Thursday, March 16 at the U of M University College in room 237 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The second screening happens the same evening at the WAG with a reception starting at 6 p.m. and screening at 7 p.m.

Fire Song was accepted to the Telefilm Canada Micro-Budget Production Program in 2014 after being nominated by NSI.

NSI grads named as finalists in Writers Guild of Canada Screenwriting Awards

Congratulations to the NSI grads who’ve been named finalists in the Writers Guild of Canada (WGC) Screenwriting Awards.

Alejandro Alcoba (NSI Totally Television) is recognized for the Degrassi: Next Class episode “#YesMeansYes” and Alexandra Zarowny (NSI Drama Prize) is recognized for the Wynonna Earp episode “Bury Me With My Guns On.”

The winners of the 2017 WGC Screenwriting Awards will be announced at a gala event on Monday, April 24 at Koerner Hall in Toronto.
