Support Iain MacLeod’s feature You Ruined Our Life on Indiegogo

Iain MacLeod (NSI Totally Television, NSI Features First) has launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise post-production funds for his feature film project You Ruined Our Life.

You Ruined Our Life is a dark comedy about a 40-something man, Bob, whose life has not worked out. He’s on the verge of committing suicide when he’s visited by Bobby, the 12-year-old version of himself (straight from the ’80s).

Bobby is mad things haven’t turned out in ‘their’ life and decides the best way to set this right is to seek revenge against their junior high bully, who’s now also in his ’40s.

Post-production funds raised will go toward colour correction, sound editing and music.

Tasha Hubbard pens op-ed for Maclean’s about her new film Birth of a Family

Tasha Hubbard’s (NSI IndigiDocs) new documentary Birth of a Family opens tomorrow at Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in Toronto. In advance of that, Tasha wrote an op-ed for Maclean’s on the origin of the film and the personal story behind it.

As Tasha writes:

I am in awe of the courage of the four siblings who allowed me to film one of the most significant moments of their lives, as part of the documentary Birth of a Family: the first time they were ever together in the same room. It happened to be at the Calgary airport where my crew and curious onlookers all witnessed a hug that was more than that.

In the film, three sisters and a brother, adopted as infants into separate families across North America, meet together for the first time.

Removed from their young Dene mother’s care as part of Canada’s infamous Sixties Scoop, Betty Ann, Esther, Rosalie and Ben were four of the 20,000 Indigenous children taken from their families between 1955 and 1985, to be either adopted into white families or to live in foster care.

Watch Allison Beda’s new music video for The Royal Oui

A new music video directed by Allison Beda (NSI Features First) for the song All About You from Seattle band The Royal Oui premiered last week on Exclaim!

All About You also screens at Dance Camera West Film Festival, Minneapolis/St. Paul International Film festival, Jacksonville Dance Film Festival, the D’Olhar Dance Film Festival in Brazil and as part of the Set Me Free dance film screening in Verona, Italy.

The film was directed and shot by Allison on the streets of Vancouver and features choreography by Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg and dancers Kate Franklin, Josh Martin, Bevin Poole-Leinweber and Kim Stevenson.

Alexandra Zarowny wins 2017 WGC screenwriting award

Alexandra Zarowny (NSI Drama Prize) recently won a Writers Guild of Canada award for her screenwriting on the Wynonna Earp episode Bury Me With My Guns On.

The winners were announced at a gala event on last week in Toronto.
