Jennifer Liao, Stephanie Law chosen as latest ZoomerMedia Bursary recipients

The National Screen Institute – Canada (NSI) is pleased to announce that the NSI Features First team of producer Jennifer Liao and writer Stephanie Law are chosen as this year’s ZoomerMedia Bursary recipients.

ZoomerMedia committed $95,000 in benefits funding over seven years to the National Screen Institute in the form of the ZoomerMedia Bursary. This award is funding allocated to the training of one diverse individual or team who are Zoomers and/or producers of Mosaic programming, in any NSI program each year.

“Stephanie and I feel incredibly fortunate to be one of this year’s NSI Features First teams, and it is a great privilege for us to be receiving this additional recognition and investment in our training from ZoomerMedia,” said Jennifer Liao. “We wish to thank them for the resources they have dedicated in support of building a more inclusive entertainment industry in Canada.”

Jennifer and Stephanie’s NSI Features First project Smash Smash Revolution is a lighthearted intergenerational family drama about Andy, an insecure Asian-Canadian college student buckling under the pressure of her mother’s demanding expectations, who must learn to take control of her direction in life – even if that means letting go of her fears and teaming up with her estranged grandmother to compete in a local ping pong tournament.

“Over the last seven years recipients of the ZoomerMedia Bursary have represented five provinces across four NSI programs, and have gone on to win awards, screen films around the world and develop new projects in Canada,” said NSI CEO John Gill. “We have no doubt Jennifer and Stephanie will continue to build their careers through their training in NSI Features First and the generous investment of ZoomerMedia.”
