National Screen Institute alumni were honoured at Gimli International Film Festival (GIFF), which took place July 20 to 24, 2022.

Congratulations to the following alumni who received prestigious awards:

Rachel Beaulieu (pictured above, NSI IndigiDocs) – winner of 11th annual RBC $10,000 Emerging Filmmaker Pitch Competition for her film idea, Marie. She receives $10K in production funds through RBC Emerging Artists; mentorship from the National Screen Institute; $5K Equipment Rental Grant Certificate from William F. White International; $500 general credit from Winnipeg Film Group; premiere screening of her film at GIFF 2023.

Marie follows the story of a devoted grandson’s fluke opportunity to take his Mémère on a trip down memory lane. Rachel says her film makes reference to memory loss, isolation and the important relationships between youth and their elders in First Nations communities.

Kim Stadfeld (NSI IndigiDocs) – Manitoba Short Film Audience Choice Award for her film, Kokum, with love., produced through NSI IndigiDocs, 2021. The film is a personal story about Kim as she searches for truth and answers about the life of her Indigenous grandmother Flora Bear.
