SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY Moroni 7:48 "Wherefore, my beloved brethren, pray unto the Father with all the energy of heart, that ye may be filled with this love, which he hath bestowed upon all who are true followers of his Son, Jesus Christ; that ye may become the sons of God; that when he shall appear we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is; that we may have this hope; that we may be purified even as he is pure. Amen." |
QUOTE OF THE DAY Joseph F. Smith "Christ is the great example for all mankind, and I believe that mankind were as much foreordained to become like him, as that he was foreordained to be the Redeemer of man. . . . We are . . . in the form of God, physically, and may become like him spiritually, and like him in the possession of knowledge, intelligence, wisdom and power" (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph F. Smith, p. 152). |

TODAY IN CHURCH HISTORY April 25 1830 - About this time, the Prophet Joseph Smith performed the first recorded miracle after the organization of the Church by casting a devil out of Newel Knight. The Prophet records, ". . . it was done not by man, nor by the power of man, but it was done by God, and by the power of godliness; therefore, let the honor and the praise, the dominion and the glory, be ascribe to the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, for ever and ever" (History of the Church, 1:83). 1839 - The Prophet Joseph Smith and others left Quincy, Illinois, to travel north to look at tracts of land in Iowa and Commerce, Illinois, for the settlement of the Saints after their expulsion from Missouri. 1844 - The Prophet Joseph was questioned by a reporter from the St. Louis Gazette who wanted to know by what principle he had become so powerful with the inhabitants the armed men of the Nauvoo Legion. Joseph replied that "I obtained power on the principles of truth and virtue, which would last when I was dead and gone" (History of the Church, 6:343). He also records that a tremendous storm hit Nauvoo about 6:00 p.m. and there was so much rain that the creeks rose over four feet and overflowed their banks causing a lot of damage. 1976 - The first stake in Hong Kong is organized. 1990 - Elder Russell M. Nelson dedicates Estonia for the preaching of the gospel. Estonia is the first country of the former Soviet Union to be opened for missionary work. 1993 - The San Diego California Temple is dedicated by President Gordon B. Hinckley. 1999 - President Gordon B.
