The Lord Will Protect Us
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
Mosiah 24:13

"And it came to pass that the voice of the Lord came to them in their afflictions, saying: Lift up your heads and be of good comfort, for I know of the covenant which ye have made unto me; and I will covenant with my people and deliver them out of bondage."

Wilford Woodruff
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Wilford Woodruff

"Calamities and troubles are increasing in the earth, and there is a meaning to these things. Remember this, and reflect upon these matters. If you do your duty, and I do my duty, we'll have protection, and shall pass through the afflictions in peace and in safety" (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Wilford Woodruff, p. 222).

TODAY IN CHURCH HISTORY
April 3

1814 - Lorenzo Snow, fifth President of the Church, is born in Mantua, Ohio.

1834 - The trial of Philastus Hurlburt continued in Chardon, Ohio, concerning his threat on the life of the Prophet Joseph Smith.

1836 - After a Sabbath meeting in the Kirtland Temple, the Prophet Joseph and Oliver Cowdery knelt in prayer around the pulpit surrounded by veils. After the prayer, they received the vision of Moses, Elias, Elijah, and Jesus Christ, that is recorded in Section 110 of the Doctrine and Covenants, restoring Priesthood keys back to the earth.

1844 - The Prophet Joseph Smith presided over a special session of the Municipal Court, with several Aldermen as Associate-Justices. After hearing the evidence brought against John P. Greene, Andrew Lyttle, and John Lyttle, the court decided "that Greene and the two Lytles be discharged, and that Chauncey L. Higbee is a very disorderly person; that this case on habeas corpus originated in a malicious and vexatious suit . . . and that said Higbee pay the costs" (History of the Church, 6:286).

1976 - The Prophet Joseph Smith's vision of the celestial kingdom and President Joseph F. Smith's vision of the redemption of the dead are approved by a vote in General Conference to be included in the standard works of the Church. Today they are included in the Doctrine and Covenants as Sections 137 and 138.

1983 - The newly renovated Assembly Hall on Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah, is dedicated by President Gordon B. Hinckley of the First Presidency.

1993 - In commemoration of the centennial of the Salt Lake Temple, a video entitled The Mountain of the Lord was shown between general conference sessions. It tells the story of the building of the Salt Lake Temple.
