1839 - The Democratic Association of Quincy, Illinois, met again to review what had been learned of the needs of the Saints arriving in their city. After their previous meeting of the 25th, they had met with several of the leaders of the Church to discuss the situation. They wrote and approved a formal resolution to help the Saints, stating, "The committee believe that our duties at this time, and on this occasion, are all included within the limits of an expanded benevolence and humanity, and which are guided and directed by that charity which never faileth" (History of the Church, 3:268).
