Book of Mormon Promises
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
Moroni 10:32

"Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your mightmind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in nowise deny the power of God."

Ezra Taft Benson

QUOTE OF THE DAY
Ezra Taft Benson

"These promises--increased love and harmony in the home, greater respect between parent and child, increased spirituality and righteousness--are not idle promises, but exactly what the Prophet Joseph Smith meant when he said the Book of Mormon will help us draw nearer to God" (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Ezra Taft Benson, p. 131).

TODAY IN CHURCH HISTORY
July 17

1838 - The Kirtland Camp continues their journey through Ohio on their way to Far West, Missouri, traveling sixteen miles today. Several brethren who had been arrested yesterday were released and returned to the camp in the evening resulting in gratitude being expressed to the Lord for the deliverance from their enemies.

1843 - The Prophet Joseph records that he spent most of the day "At home with my brother Hyrum conversing on the Priesthood" (History of the Church, 5:510).

1847 - Because of the sickness of Brigham Young, the pioneer company only traveled about 2 ½ miles, stopping at 10:00 am. In the afternoon, many of the camp members ascended a high hill near by and engaged in prayer on behalf of those sick in the camp. Orson Pratt's advance company worked most of the day clearing brush and rocks from the road, traveling about eight miles.

1882 - The Deseret Hospital, the third hospital in Utah and the first Church owned hospital, is opened by the Relief Society in Salt Lake City, Utah.

1894 - U.S. President Grover Cleveland signs the Utah Statehood Bill, authorizing Utah to hold a constitutional convention in preparation to becoming a State.

1992 - U.S. President George H. W. Bush meets with the First Presidency and members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. During the evening, he makes a surprise appearance at the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's concert on Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah.
