#1 Destroy vs. Preserve Philips CPAP Sleep Machine EvidencePhiladelphia, PA In response to a federal court order requiring Philips RS North America to preserve evidence for a multidistrict litigation, the company says it hinders the recall and repairs of its defective CPAP sleep machines, as per the FDA’s order. But plaintiffs say Philips proposes to destroy evidence—defective sound-dampening foam and memory cards—unnecessarily.
#2 Boy Scouts of America Sex Abuse Settlement – For and AgainstLos Angeles, CA Voting a settlement of almost $1.9 billion to compensate over 82,000 Boy Scouts of America sexual abuse victims has begun with a December 14, 2021 deadline to vote for the Plan. But many survivors and their attorneys oppose the current proposal.
#3 Lisinopril—Hidden DangersLas Vegas, NV Many prescription drugs are as common as aspirin; it's no wonder that many consumers don't read warning labels or consider that a medication could be associated with side effects. Take Lisinopril, for instance. It is one of the most widely prescribed drugs in the US, and it also has the potential to harm a lot of people.
#4 Lisinopril Associated with Many Serious Side Effects, Including Angioedema and Liver DamageHouston, TXLisinopril, used to treat hypertension, congestive heart failure and heart attack, is associated with many side effects including liver damage. Beverly was diagnosed with angioedema (which can be life-threatening) as a direct result of Lisinopril, according to her hospital doctors.
#5 Turning Points Not for ChildrenPhiladelphia, PA The largest Philadelphia child welfare agency, which returned three girls to their sexually abusive father who continued to assault them, has settled with the girls for $6 million. This tragic incident isn’t the first involving “Turning Points for Children”. In fact Turning Points has been named in at least three negligence complaints. Perhaps it should be named Turning Points NOT for Children.
#6 $95.7 Wells Fargo Settlement Offer in Question as Objector Raises New IssuesSan Jose, CA On September 23, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California heard objections to a $95.7 million offer made by Wells Fargo to settle consolidated class action lawsuits brought by Wells Fargo Home Mortgage Consultants (HMCs). The lawsuits allege that the bank violated California state labor laws by failing to either provide or pay for rest breaks for its HMCs.
#7 Cleaning Processes Blamed for Defective CPAP Devices – Scapegoat SoClean Files Lawsuit Against PhilipsPeterborough, NH Being Philips’ Scapegoat has resulted in SoClean filing a lawsuit against the CPAP sleep machine manufacturer alleging unfair and deceptive practices and “causing it to suffer at least $200 million in damages”. Philips suggested that SoClean was to blame for its 15 million faulty CPAP and BiPAP machines.
#8 Amazon to Pay $500,000 in COVID-19 Notice LawsuitSan Francisco, CA On November 15, California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced that Amazon had agreed to pay the State of California $500,000 and amend its Covid-19 notification practices to comply with California’s new “right-to-know” law. AB 685, enacted in December 2020, amended the California Labor Code to require employers to notify workers about potential workplace exposure in ways designed to actually provide them with meaningful information, on the basis of which they might make informed healthcare choices.
#9 Maker Of “Neuro” Drinks Agrees To Pay $500,000 In Fines and Restitution Neurobrands LLC, the Santa Monica-based maker of the “Neuro” line of drinks, has agreed to a permanent court injunction that requires it to change its marketing practices. The company will also pay $500,000 in penalties and restitution as part of a settlement with local prosecutors.
#10 Microsoft to Pay $2 Million in Workplace Bullying CaseAustin, TXMichael Mercieca kept the faith and after seven years finally saw the courts order Microsoft to pay for bullying him to a near breaking point.
