Students Energize Long Beach Unified School District to Go 100% Renewable! |
|
 | For the last two years, Grades of Green students in Long Beach have been amped up to persuade the Long Beach school board to commit to using 100% clean and renewable energy district wide. In pursuit of their goal to create a healthier and greener community for all, they have mobilized their neighbors to attend school boarsd meeting through fliers, videos, and verbal outreach. On August 17th, these passionate young student Eco-Leaders were able to witness and celebrate their efforts as the Long Beach Board of Education unanimously voted to adopt the Green School Energy and Sustainability Board policy.
Our future looks bright with these young environmentalists leading the way! |

Environmental Issue Spotlight |

Great News! Earlier this month, President Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) into law which includes a total investment of $370 billion to support the transition to sustainable energy usage and generation. Financial incentives and tax credits are included at multiple levels – from the average consumer to manufacturers to large-scale producers, creating a trifecta of environmental wins! For consumers, the bill has measures to ensure switching to clean energy in the household is affordable, including incentives for making homes energy efficient and tax credits for purchasing clean energy vehicles. At the production level, tax credits will incentivize the manufacturing of clean energy technology, such as electric vehicles, solar panels, and wind turbines. Financial incentives for manufacturers magnify the commitment at the federal level to support the transition to clean energy generation, signifying substantial progress in the fight against climate change. The total impact of the Inflation Reduction Act is far-reaching, resulting in a 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emission levels in the US by 2030 compared to 2005. A well needed breath of fresh air! |
