Terrorist leader killed

President Donald Trump announced Sunday morning that Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi blew himself up as U.S. troops closed in [Washington Post].

President Trump said watching the raid that killed al-Baghdadi was like "watching a movie" [New York Times].

Experts on terrorism say the raid will likely not prevent the resurgence of ISIS [Washington Post].

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said President Trump notified Russian officials of the Baghdadi raid before telling congressional leaders [Washington Post].

President Trump claimed his 2000 book warned of the threat posed by Obama bin Laden prior to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. His book contained no such warning [CNN].


Impeachment

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Adam Schiff says former national security adviser John Bolton is a "very important" witness for the current impeachment inquiry [Fox News].

Gordon Sondland, the ambassador to the European Union, told House investigators President Trump's efforts to pressure Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden was a quid pro quo [WSJ].

Rudy Giuliani, President Trump's personal lawyer, accidentally butt-dialed a reporter. On the phone call, he can be heard trashing the Bidens and discussing a need for hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash [NBC News].


Yikes!

The U.S. deficit hit nearly $1 trillion this year. The deficit grew 26 percent in the last year [Washington Post].


Hmmm...

Former White House chief of staff John Kelly said he warned President Trump that hiring a "yes man" to succeed him as chief of staff would lead to his impeachment [Washington Examiner].

White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham hit back at Kelly saying "he was totally unequipped to handle the genius of our great President" [Politico].


Oof!

President Trump was booed by the crowd at Game 5 of the World Series on Sunday night. The crowd also chanted "lock him up" after he was introduced [Washington Post].


Shocking resignation

Freshman Democratic Rep. Katie Hill is resigning from Congress after allegations of inappropriate sexual relationships with staffers in her office and on her campaign team [Politico].


Brexit

The European Union agreed to delay the deadline for Britain to leave the organization until January 31 [New York Times].


Generational shift

Nearly 70% of millennials and 64% of Americans in Gen. Z say they would vote for a socialist candidate [Axios].


For your radar

Americans will shell out nearly $9 billion this year for Halloween, but that massive number represents the second straight year spending on the holiday fell [The Hill].
