I’ll share a secret with you: The editor of MLive does not read a newspaper every day. I do, however, read the great work of our journalists on our web pages, apps, social media accounts and in our online newspaper editions. And because sometimes I’m too busy to go looking for news, I am also signed up for news push alerts to my phone and topical MLive newsletters to my email in-box. (I’ll tell you at the end of this column how you can access all of these formats.) This underscores a principle we committed to when we launched MLive as a digital-first marriage of traditional print and internet in 2012: We will follow our readers, however they evolve in getting information. That remains true today, as we continue to add, refine and improve the formats we offer. The latest proof of that is an expansion of the electronic versions of our eight newspapers. We piloted the change with The Ann Arbor News in September, and so far it’s doubled the number of readers using the daily online paper. Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 24, here’s what subscribers will see when they read the online version of The Bay City Times, The Flint Journal, The Grand Rapids Press, Jackson Citizen Patriot, Kalamazoo Gazette, Muskegon Chronicle and The Saginaw News: Late-breaking news and sports: We’ll be able to get more evening news into your morning paper, such as government meeting news and high school, college and pro sports coverage. 82 pages a week of new features: This includes additional puzzles, health and science stories, books pages, national and international news and sports, extra opinion pages and more. Sports box score pages and a new “Success” financial planning section. These additions will not appear in printed versions of our newspapers, which are bound by deadlines driven by production and distribution. But all that additional content will be available 7 days a week in your online edition. Current print subscribers simply need to activate digital access – there is no additional fee. To activate digital access visit myaccount.mlive.com. Click on Activate and follow the prompts. You will need an email address and creation of a password to sign into the online newspaper. Once the account is created, you will start receiving a morning email notification letting you know the latest edition is available. Simply click on the link for access. Not a subscriber, but interested in checking out the electronic version? For a limited time, we are offering an introductory price of just $4.99 per month to access that daily edition. To sign up, visit subscribe.mlive.com. Pick the newspaper title you want, then select either the online newspaper plus Sunday home delivery offer (enter promo code EMFALL23P) or online newspaper only (enter promo code EMFALL23O). Upon completion, your activation to the online newspaper will be set and you’ll begin getting your daily email notification when the edition is available. If you are a digital-only subscriber to MLive (nonprint), make sure you are logged into your account. Sign in at mlive.com/login and visit any MLive article; you will be served our current offers for the online newspaper edition.
