Ditka daysI thought our Jeff Duncan summed up the Saints' situation well after the team's sixth straight loss: This is embarrassing. Yes, there have been injuries. And there have been legitimate reasons why the Saints have lost. But six in a row? The Saints haven't done that since 2005. And interestingly, Jeff has covered the Saints for more than 20 years, but the closest parallel to these Saints might be the season before he started on the beat: 1999. "When I started covering the Saints in 2000, team officials used to openly mock the Ditka days. And rightfully so. The team was a laughingstock, a leaguewide embarrassment," Jeff writes. His column is a must read for Saints fans. Running out of time Rod Walker also had a strong column from Sunday's game, which focused on how the hole is getting deeper and deeper for the Saints to climb out of. And more troubling: The Saints might not be as close as they thought to turning things around. The Saints are 2-6 and even with Derek Carr's pending return, they might not have enough time to save their season.
